Easter Wild Camp
The end of the Easter Holidays is fast approaching and what has been a mixed bag of weather its been. I am so glad that we certainly had the pick of it!
The knives and peelers were out and in constant use with creativity abounding. Clay creations, wooden woodland creatures and magical potions emerged from mucky hands and tired fingers. The strength and dexterity that they build in their fingers through peeling and knife skills is amazing. Certainly helpful for fine motor skills.
A big welcome to the new faces that joined us these holidays. It was great to meet you. It was lovely to see new friendships being made and long standing friendships enjoyed. In our house we now a collection of ‘Wild Camp friends’ I love that these kids get to make connections with others that they generally wouldn’t see or know apart from their ‘wild’ connection!
Some of us had a go at making paper and others were more interested in making fires, blazing through a huge amount of cotton pad fire lighters and then tinder. The next day they were forced to level up on their fire starting skills and come up with alternative solutions to lighting fires! Happily, they were undeterred in their commitment to the fire and managed to get a few lit. I’m not 100% sure how. Their commitment and focus was commendable!
The hammocks were in constant use, full of chatter and laughter. Hammocks are so helpful in reducing stress, and anxiety, improving sleep, creating calm and supporting our mental health and overall wellness. Amazing the benefits of a little, gentle rocking.
There’s a new emerging veggie patch ‘Spud Ville’ on site which we planted up with some potatoes, onions and herbs. It’s another question whether it will survive the other inhabitants that live in the woods … time will tell.
The ‘rough around the edges’ pond was also another highly attractive feature especially for lunch time. It’s a new little spot, nothing much happening in it yet (as its just been dug out) the kids were happy to sit there and enjoy being around it. Water is so calming and engaging. Watching how they interacted with the space has inspired me as to how to develop it further. Thanks gang.
The making paper left some of us with ‘smurf’ coloured hands! There’s a reel on social media if anyone is interested in giving it a go at home especially if you’ve got lots of tissue wrapping paper knocking around from Easter egg gifts! There’s a highlights reel of our time at camp on social media too.
We finished off each day with some marshmallows/ s’mores and some delicious hot chocolate. SO delicious that we had to scrape out every morsel with our pointy marshmallow sticks (yes it took forever!!LOL)
As always a pleasure to have your kids in the woods. I hope they all had a good time. Please do come and speak to me if you need to about any issues that you’d like me to know about. It’s important to me that they feel supported during their time at Rooted Wings.
A heads up that May half term dates are now live and an email with the booking link is going out shortly. The spring newsletter will be arriving too, full of the happenings at Rooted Wings and details of some family sessions coming up over the summer, starting with a Family Birds of Prey Session on April 29th! There’s still some spaces available.
I look forward to seeing you all again soon,
Rachel x
