Hi Friend!
I’m SO glad that you’ve found this little spot!
I’m Rachel, the founder of
Rooted Wings.
Welcome.
Here’s 6 things you might like to know about me so we can get to know each other a little better.
I’m a mum of 4 kids. We love wild spaces and we spend lots of time exploring them- sometimes we all want to, sometimes we don’t - but we go anyway.
I’m Irish (from Dublin) and have lived in beautiful Yorkshire since 2004, after falling head over heels with the love of my life.
We’re unexpected homeschoolers and technically we’re hybrid schoolers; two finished GCSE’s, one part time Year 7 and one at home.
You can watch more about my early steps into Outdoor Learning here.
RW is grounded in a blend of hands-on practice, theory, and a genuine appreciation for all that the outdoors can offer. Most recently, I completed a Master’s in Outdoor and Experiential Learning (Bushcraft). Alongside my experience in homeschooling, rearing my four kids, Forest School practice, and work as a primary school teacher, Rooted Wings is growing into a space where I can share and offer these approaches to others.
RW encapsulates my desire to give children, young people and their families better connection to themselves, each other and the land in order to improve outcomes for all. ‘Rooted’ so we have deep knowledge of belonging and ‘Wings’ a recognition of the need for autonomy.
That's me! I look forward to welcoming you on an adventure and getting to know you a little better,
Rachel x
The Story of Rooted Wings
Connected to ourselves, the land and each other, living and learning together with nature.
Have you ever noticed that;
‘Nature is never in a hurry yet everything is accomplished’
This quote by Lao Tzu runs through the core at Rooted Wings. We want to follow and flow with the rhythms of nature in every day life to maintain an unwavering, steady, calm and yet relentless approach to life.
I want Rooted Wings to facilitate and create spaces for that to flourish in others, not just ourselves. I have felt the warmth and benefit of having spaces like this. It’s also an extension of our life at home, where we chose to homeschool, live in such a way that we are connected to ourselves, each other and the land around us. It’s a journey, one that we’re on and we’d love for you to join us either virtually through social media, newsletters and blogs or in person at a session.
I hope that you feel empowered and inspired to discover to go out into nature and discover for yourselves the rejuvenating power of nature and the gift and soothe that it is to our souls.

There are two gifts we should give out children, one is roots and the other is wings.
